The Porsche 964 retained the classic silhouette of the 911, but it featured more integrated bumpers and smoother body lines compared to earlier models. The 964 also had a redesigned rear spoiler that automatically extended at higher speeds to improve aerodynamics. The 964 was powered by an air-cooled, rear-mounted, horizontally opposed "flat-six" engine. Initially, it was available with a 3.6-liter engine producing around 247 horsepower, and later, the Carrera 4 models received a revised 3.6-liter engine with increased power output. The Porsche 964 Carrera 4 was the first 911 model to feature all-wheel drive. This system, known as the Porsche AWD (Porsche-Allrad-Antrieb) system, offered improved traction and handling characteristics, especially in adverse weather conditions.
