Background:
The Moynihan Concourse, located atop the western end of Pennsylvania Station, New York City’s main intercity and commuter rail station, is the station’s main building. Situated within the former James A. Farley Building, the former New York City General Post Office, it occupies a block between Eighth Avenue, Ninth Avenue, 31st Street, and 33rd Street in Midtown Manhattan.
This annex provides Amtrak and Long Island Rail Road passengers with new access to most of Pennsylvania Station’s platforms, serving 17 of the station’s 21 tracks. The concourse is named after U.S. Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan, who originally championed the project. The building’s Art Deco exterior is similar to that of the original Pennsylvania Station.
